Thank you for this inspiring piece. Since quitting cannabis last year, my dream recall has been significantly enhanced. I was journaling for a time but fell off the wagon. It’s easier for me to dictate to my notes in my phone rather than turn the light on and physically write. I definitely want to re engage. I have heard about using a digital watch and making a habit of checking it to see if you are dreaming because digital numbers can’t be read in the dream world. Also of flipping light switches each time you enter a room, because lighting can’t be changed in dreams. I actually noticed that in a dream recently, though I hadn’t been practicing and it didn’t fully alert me to the fact I was dreaming. Someone once told me that he lucid dreamed all the time and was always exhausted because when doing so he didn’t rest. That was the only time I’d heard that.

I'm sorry my earlier reply was incomplete..

The thing you say about numbers is so true, the time or any kind of number can truly be all over the place.

I never thought about the light switches, I'm definitely going to try that.

My dream patterns that always tells me I'm in a dream is trying to call someone and never finding the contact, scrolling and scrolling through the contact list, it's weird how often this happens to me.

I rarely lucid dream twice in the same week, so I never felt exhausted, but I can definitely picture being exhausted as hell if you lucid dream every night or such.

It will take some time before recognizing a pattern will turn you lucid, its strange how much your weirdness radar is off during dreams. But with practice you will get there.

What do you picture yourself wanting to do when you go lucid? I believe you have to really have some fun with it the first times.

Anyway sorry again for the partial reply earlier and thank you again.

Thank you for your thoughtful responses. Weird radar being off in dreams—yes! Totally. Interesting too that you say that as the root word wyrd also means fate, destiny, to become. Like mastering the radar is a gatekeeper. Anyway I need to get more serious about this. Thank you for asking me what I want to do when I go lucid. Flying in dreams is always amazing, and only really happens when I’m partially lucid. I want to contact reflections, refractions of myself, that connect me to the wisdom and compassion of my soul which unfortunately is so often drown out by the cynical, wounded and cowardly mind. Until that becomes the stable state in which I abide in waking life.

I just have to aknowledge the synchronicity of wyrd, being someone of Scandinavian heritage that grew up with stories about the norns. It's fascinating.

Whenever I fall into a habit of not writing my dreams down and neglect the practice, and I try to get back into the saddle, I find Mugwort really helps me out, you know the witch's herb of medieval Europe.

It sounds like you have a really mature way of seeing both your potential and your weaknesses. Remember not be too hard on the cynical and wounded part of your soul, there is wisdom in that too.

Thank you for reading and your comment. I keep my journal digital as well, there are a lot of really good apps for that, I use one that's called “Day One”, that lets me keep many different journals in one app. It allows for audio recordings if you get the premium version.

There are also some specially for dreams as well but I think all of them require a purchase for all the features.
